Granite
Choices
|
Granite undoubtedly is
the best choice for kitchen countertops, as well as any
other area that has a lot of usage in relation to
exposure to both food and drink. Any stone
including granite, should not be exposed to acids of any
type including lemon or orange juice, and especially the
juice of tomatoes, because it will etch the stone.
The lighter in color the stone the more porous it is,
and this includes granite.
|
Limestone
Choices
|
Limestone is a favorite
for elegant tile floor designs, and is a softer stone
with exceptions, and more on the expensive side.
Limestone is used for countertops, sinks, fireplaces,
art works, and exterior cladding on buildings.
Limestone has been used extensively over the centuries
for buildings in Europe and around the world. It
is beautiful with neutral colors and some colors show
the fossils that made up their composition long ago
imbedded into the natural stone design..
|
Marble
Choices
|
Marble is used both for
luxurious flooring designs, and for bath countertops and
tub decks and surrounds, shower surrounds [the whole
bath]. For the very adventurous, you'll find
marble in their kitchen, but this is only recommended
for the stone knowledgeable person because Marble does
scratch, it will etch from acidic foods, and it will
certainly stain from wine and other food and drink.
Europeans have used marble kitchen countertops for
centuries, and view it as an ordinary countertop!
The lighter in color the stone the more porous it is.

Precious
Stones
|
These are the precious
gem stones that are used to create beautiful jewelry,
and in the last decade the slabs and tiles in these
stones have become quite popular in home and business
dιcor. They are magnificent natural stone works of art,
with unlimited possibilities, and stylish applications,
and are beautiful for an elegant bath antique furniture
piece countertop.
|
Quartzite
Stones
|
The newer quartzite
composition stones have become quite popular in the last
few years, and are made up of different compositions for
different kinds of stone and effects. The stone of granite or marble
or whatever is either crushed or ground and is mixed
with a fiberglass type substance for bonding to create a
very hard surface that is very similar to granite or
marble in looks, but the stone quartzite's still are not equal
to real granite or marble. If you want a more neutral or
true pattern color, than these quartzite stone
composition applications might be a good choice for
you.

Slate
|
Slate has been used for
ever for flooring in areas that can take a little
rougher treatment and abuse from inclement weather, and
of course for a more rustic look. Slate is used in
foyers and family rooms, but unless it is honed, it is
uneven to walk on, but is great for outdoor patios and
walkways. Slate slab has made it's way into the
bath and wet bar areas of the home as countertops the
last few years.

Travertine
Choices
|
This is without a doubt,
your all around heavy duty flooring tile that can take
on a casual look or a very formal look depending on the
design to make that specific statement. It takes
quite a bit of abuse from weather and pets, so this is
always a great choice when it comes to flooring, and
stone will endure forever. This stone has become
very popular in the master bath the last decade, and
really cannot be beat. It's neutral in color and
can be accessorized very easily, again for a formal or
informal look. The bath countertops, tub decks,
surrounds and showers done in travertine are exquisite,
lending ambiance to what is normally a humdrum bath. This stone is great for
flooring applications anywhere in the house, for commercial
application, and the cost is quite reasonable compared
to marble or granite. |
